Every asthma experience is unique – from the things that trigger your symptoms to the severity of your attacks. This means your definition of asthma control is likely deeply personal, too. Because every situation is different, you may be one of the many who have learned to live with asthma symptoms that actually indicate a more severe form of the disease – and not even realize it.
In fact, one study surprisingly found more than 80% of people who had experienced severe asthma attacks that required treatment with steroid tablets, emergency room visits or hospitalization in the previous year considered their asthma to be controlled.1
That’s why we launched The Next Breath, a global initiative that aims to bring more awareness to severe asthma, illuminate the latest science behind the disease and empower people to take action to strive for better asthma control. We want to change the conversations people are having about their asthma and encourage those living with the disease to think about their level of control.
And that’s why we’re excited to introduce The Next Breath Blog, which will feature personal stories, tips and resources, and other posts covering an array of topics such as speaking with your doctor, living with asthma and the role of type 2 inflammation. You’ll hear from people with severe asthma and their families, doctors, advocates and many others.
Join us on a journey towards gaining a better understanding of severe asthma, and check back each month for new content. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
